Attaining and preserving cost-efficient quality hallmarks is a must, and this process requires that a company makes a planned and effective use of its technological, human and material resources available. The introduction of computer-based support in the Romanian railway system also extends to automated planning, management and monitoring procedures for trains and related timetables.
The project kicked off in September 2002, with its first stable version completed in December 2003. The two teams of experts assembled by The Red Point and CNCFR combined to research the field-specific data environment and shape project scope and objectives into an accurate picture.
By deploying the Routes software system on Romanian Railways premises, work procedures of the target personnel have evolved, contributing to a great extent in a performance boost.
The scope of the Routes software system included assisted management and providing computer-based support for train edit and handling procedures, drafting time-distance charts, and focusing on the technical, economic and ergonomic targets below:
-
scaling down feedback times in decision-making and execution processes;
-
increasing the level of flexibility and adaptability as dataflow changes occur;
-
streamlining material and human resources management;
-
increasing work efficiency by eliminating redundancy and routine;
-
improving communication between headquarters and other regional subsidiaries in the country.
