Rail transport management software

Every day, around 120 000 people travel by train everywhere in Romania and some 3 600 trains carry over 200 000 tons of freight. All these trains run on a highly detailed route and follow a predetermined schedule.

The Routes software system was developed specifically for CNCFR - Romanian Railways and was tailored to suit its corporate structure, streamlining management workload in CNCFR.

Routes is a client-server software system, designed mainly to organize timetables. The target end-users of this program are essentially railroad employees responsible with:

  • editing and organizing train operations;
  • drafting time-distance charts for viewing trains (controllers);
  • detecting conflicts occurring;
  • generating the Timetable for the passengers and issuing working timetables for the railway staff.

Routes provides the Traffic Department of CNCFR with the tool that clears up resource-consuming routine tasks. The system has a modular design and is built to ensure a high level of intermodule independence. This structure makes the existing system scalable, with the future addition of new modules and features possible.

The Routes software system is currently operating in the Traffic Control/Timetable Services Department and serving seamlessly around 50 users in the main traffic control center and in the 8 regional subsidiaries: Craiova, Timisoara, Brasov, Cluj, Iasi, Galati, Constanta, Bucharest. Ever since 2003, “The Public timetable” and the employee timetables were created thanks to this one-of-a-kind system.

Users in the entire CNCFR infrastructure have online access to the data stored in the main traffic control center. This streamlines the entire process of relaying internal data.

By developing and integrating all data collection and processing elements, and the internal communication network via Routes, the railway-specific processes are optimized.
